Festa St. Erasmo 1987
ITALIANO: Alla fine della Seconda Guerra Mondiale, Fenwick Keyser, il padre del mio amico Michael Keyser (Michele), un Luogo- tenente Comandante appartenente alla flotta Americana, fu mandato in Italia per una missione. Il suo scopo era di aiutare la ricostruzi- one delle linee di comunicazione Italiane che erano state distrutte durante i bombardamenti.
Nel periodo trascorso in Italia Fen alloggiava all’albergo Nazionale di Roma.Mentre stava svolgendo il suo lavoro egli incontrò Cino Corsini che era un Ufficiale della Marina Militare Italiana e divennero amici.Un giorno I due stavano volando sopra la Toscana su di un aereo dell’ Aviazione Americana. Voci dicono che a loro era stata assegnata una missione molto importante: Rifornire di liquori il Circolo Ufficiali di Roma!
Cino chiese al pilota di volare sopra Monte Argentario dato che aveva qualcosa da mostrare a Fen. Appena sorvolarono Porto Ercole, Cino indico` alcune delle proprieta` che la sua famiglia possedeva.
“Chissa`, disse Fen. “ Forse un giorno ritornero` e verro` a trovarti” E questo e` quello che accadde.
Nell’estate del 1958 Fen affitto` la villa Rodd ad Ansedonia, di proprieta` di una famiglia inglese avente lo stesso nome e porto` la sua famiglia, eccetto Michele che fu mandato in Campeggio in Canada. Fen si innamoro` subito di Porto Ercole. Si sa una cosa attira l’altra e cosi` egli acquisto` un pezzo di terreno dal Sig. Presenti, il padre di Sofia, la moglie di Ardito.Furono consultati due architetti di Firenze per disegnare il progetto della casa ed I lavori cominciarono nel 1959.
Durante l’estate del 1959 Fen affitto` nuovamente Villa Rodd assieme alla sua famiglia, questa volta portando anche Michele. Anche se alloggiavano ad Ansedonia, tutti i giorni si recavano a Porto Ercole per controllare I progressi dei lavori di costruzione della Villa. L’anno successivo, il 1960 la villa era pronta. I primi a lavorarci furono Il Sig. Ezio e la Sig.ra Maria Bucchi originari di Roma.
Fino a quel momento Maria prestava servizio all’albergo Nazionale dove aveva conosciuto Fen, durante la guerra. Suo marito Ezio era Chef al ristorante la Chiave D’oro. Anche Ardito e Sofia Pantini vennero a lavorare per custodire la Villa durante le assenze di Fen.
Questa è la storia di come Michele è venuto a Porto Ercole. Durante la sua permanenza a Porto Ercole, Michele ha scattato molte foto, probabilmente oltre 5.000. Di seguito sono riportati i link ai cortometraggi con molte di quelle foto, per anno. Attualmente c’è una mostra di molte delle foto al Forte Stella di Porto Ercole. ENGLISH: At the end of the Second World War, Fenwick Keyser, a Lieutenant Commander in the U.S. Navy and the father of my friend Michael Keyser, was sent to Italy. His mission was to help rebuild the Italian lines of communication that had been destroyed during the bombing. During his time in Italy, Fen, as he was called, was staying at the Hotel Nazionale in Rome. While he was doing his work, he met Cino Corsini who was an Italian Navy Officer and they became friends. One day the two were flying over Tuscany in an plane. Rumors have it that they had been assigned a very important mission: To supply the Rome Officers Club with liquor!
Cino asked the pilot to fly over Monte Argentario as he had something to show Fen. As they flew over Porto Ercole, Cino pointed down to some of the properties that his family owned in and around the town.
“Who knows,” said Fen. “Maybe someday I will come back and find you” And that is what happened.
In the summer of 1958 Fen rented the villa Rodd in Ansedonia, owned by an English family of the same name and brought his fam- ily, except Michele who was sent to camp in Canada. Fen immediately fell in love with Porto Ercole. One thing led to another and hebought a piece of land from Sig. Presenti, the father of Sofia, Ardito Pantini’s wife. Two architects from Florence were hired to design the house and the work began in 1959.
During the summer of 1959 Fen again rented Villa Rodd together with his family, this time also bringing Michele. They went to Porto Ercole every day to check the progress of the construction work on the Villa. The following year, the villa was ready. The first to work on it were Ezio and Maria Bucchi from Rome.
Until then, Maria had worked at the Hotel Nazionale where she had met Fen during the war. Her husband Ezio was Chef at a restaurant called the Golden Key. Ardito and Sofia Pantini also came to work at the Villa. This is the story of how Michele came to Porto Ercole. During his time in Porto Ercole, Michele took many photos, probably over 5,000.
